Jean Brown, LCSWR

As a psychotherapist, I see symptoms as a cry into the night searching for harmony, balance, aligning with one’s true nature and purpose. As a yogini, I understand the essential wisdom and strength embedded in our DNA. As an artist, I know the joy of self-expression. Given the proper support and love, we are destined to shine.

What to Expect

I provide a sanctuary, a safe place for the therapeutic process to unfold. By honoring and being guided by your process, I tailor treatment to your unique and emerging needs. The goal is to enhance and support your health, strength, and complexity.

Along with talk therapy, I offer:

  • Yoga, Meditation and Breathwork

  • Work Inspired by Fitzmaurice Voicework®

  • Butoh Dance Techniques

  • Acting

  • Poetry

  • Writing

When I speak of your complexity, I speak to all we are as humans. The strength to cry, to be vulnerable. The strength to accept our imperfections, the shadow side of who we think we are. This is the beauty of our humanness. We get angry, we get messy, we can be needy, we can be the healer as much as we are the one needing healing. We are moms, dads, daughters, sons, grandparents, great grandparents, politicians, lovers, poets, born healers, businesspeople, scientists, artists.

True acceptance means no part of us is left behind.

Workshops and Group Offerings

When we come together to be quiet, go inward, to reflect, or when we come together to play and co-create, we feel physically attuned and experience a sense of connection and joy.

What People Are Saying

“Jean is an intelligent, loving, and empathetic person who will go above and beyond for her patients. I starting seeing Jean at a time when my world was falling apart around me. Worry, anxiety, and depression seemed to consume my life. She has always been there when I needed her for support and has helped me put back together the pieces of my life. I recommend Jean without reservation, as she has been a true blessing in my life, helping me to overcome my previous trauma, find my inner strength and embrace my new beginnings. Thank you Jean, I don’t have enough words to express what your support and guidance means to me.”

— Joanne, Business Administrator, MBA, Huntington, NY

“I love taking classes with Jean! Her classes are so relaxing and restorative. Before taking class with her, I was hesitant about getting back into any type of physical practice. As soon as I entered the space and class began, I felt totally at ease. She very much connects with each student and their individual needs. I walked out feeling so relaxed and energized. I recommend her classes for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. The space is also beautiful and so welcoming.

- Danielle Panek, Visual Artist, Brooklyn, NY

"It has been a life changing experience having Jean for a therapist. I felt so comfortable speaking to her about everything, good and bad. She listens, asks questions, makes observations and suggestions. I've seen how things from my childhood on up to present day life have affected me. She recommends books that help me see why I act in certain situations, things I learn from. I'm more cognizant of my emotions, enjoy the good and try to block out the unhealthy behavior, and lose the negative people in my life.

Every time I leave her office, I feel the weight of the world is off my shoulders and very positive about myself. What more can you ask of a therapist?"

- John C. - Retired Detective, Board Member at Jake’s Foundation, Healer helping people recover from Substance Abuse

“Being directed by Jean is one of the greatest gifts an actor can experience. I had the privilege of working with her and I was amazed at the depth and soul she brought to the work. As actors we felt safe. If a scene had risk for injury, she knew how to adjust it so that it was both physically safe and visually stunning. She could highlight moments and themes that showed the universal experience of human beings. She understood the dynamic of the characters and how it melded with our personal dynamics. I always look to a director to show me how my work fits into the larger whole to make for visceral, truthful, rich storytelling. She nurtured the story, she nurtured the collaborative creative process, and she nurtured us, with brilliant insights and a clear vision. I saw my fellow actors in new ways. I learned more about myself as an actor during that play than in all my years of work and study. Jean can say one line and at once, everything clicks. And the audience? It clicked for them too.”

- Georgia Berny, Actress, Social Worker, Therapist, Indigenous and Environmental Advocate, Tampa, FL

“Working with Jean Brown the past 12 years has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. The combination of therapy and yoga has given me years of processing, understanding, self-listening, and the feeling of moving energy through my body, mind, and spirit. My life would not be the same without it!

Practicing yoga with Jean awakens you to your Self. She creates and holds the quiet, safe space that allows each student to melt into their unique, peaceful rhythm, hear their own gentle voice. I found myself and my own inner guidance through the combination of therapy and yoga with Jean. In my daily life, I find myself connecting to my breath, connecting my body and mind through the flowing, gentle yoga movements, the stillness in asana, the reflection after therapy. I continue to practice regularly with Jean, and I find when I don't continue this practice for a week, I miss it terribly! Working with Jean leads me to feel integrated, supported, and able to feel my feelings. Tremendous strength and resiliency follows. Regular yoga + therapy with Jean gives me my time to ground, reflect, process, understand, and move forward. Jean empowers her students, sets them free, and continuously supports them through her gifts and practices. The ripple effect is immeasurable.”

- JCL, Yoga Teacher, Child Educator and Advocate, Long Island, NY

“Having a regular practice with Jean Brown is like having a Master teacher guide you into the depths and the expansiveness of your unique being. Life changing, every class brings me closer and closer to peace.”

— Jennifer, Long Island, NY

“Jean is a gifted actor and director. She is a natural at it. She brings herself fully to every role. She is open and giving and has the courage to go deep emotionally. She is also a pleasure to work with because she does the work to analyze and bring to life a script, commits to rehearsals, and respects her fellow actors. Jean doesn’t hold back. She has an intimate connection with the material and her fellow actors. I have worked on many roles with her and was always impressed with her ability. I trusted her and her work. I was also directed by Jean in a play. As a Director, she had a creative vision for the production, was organized, respected the actors with whom she was working, and brought out the best performance in us. Jean won Best Director Award for that piece! I look forward to acting with, and being directed by Jean Brown in the future!

— Luanne Surace, NYC Actress, Singer, Songwriter, Recording Artist, Painter
